RE: I Hate Coaching
Assalamualaikum all,
Some of you may recognize me by my nick. I was reading this forum and I had a question to ask. This may not be the most appropriate thread to post this, but here goes... Life coaching, as I see it is about getting help in achieving one's dream goals. What if someone has an issue which is more fundamental, like one who can't even set fixed career goals (aka dreams)? Meaning, he starts out with some goal, but then realizes it may not be something that he really wants/needs/desires, and doesn't have enough drive to push him forward? Ultimately, he toggles between multiple thoughts/goals/desires and in the end doesn't end up writing his dream story which he could aim to fulfil? To put it in Sh. Muhammad Alshareef's words, he is unable to come up with his "point B"? (Basically, he could be chasing a moving, morphing, evolving target.) Sequel to the above question. This doesn't relate to financial/career goals. ****************************************************** What if he does come up with a point B, but his ultimate dream (aka point B) is so far out there that in order to get to it, he realizes that (from his point A), he can't because he is scared/can't possibly see how he could do it? |

RE: I Hate Coaching
salaamu alaikum,
Here's what i don't understand about DiscoverU coaching: When i first heard of the idea, i thought it meant that Sh Muhammad AlShareef was going to take underutilized shuyukh, put them through the program, give them lots of sample scenarios to walk through, etc, and then those shuyukh would be life-coaching all us regular ppl. Since they already have a real strong sharia background, the coaching would develop other, weaker skills and the combination would be a really powerful way of helping out the community. But it seems that the coaching is being done by people without much classical sharia-type knowledge. How is this an advantage over any regular life coach? When someone has Sh Muhammad AlShareef as their coach, how much of his advice draws on knowledge that he got from Islamic Uni? And how does that compare with a coach who doesn't have that background? ( i freely admit that other than all the "Why don't you take the Discover U course? Are you a punk kid?" emails, I have no experience with Discover U whatsoever, so i could be completely off base here ) |

The principles he works off of are grounded in Islam but the science itself is a human/secular science. It's really up to you to decide on what you want out of the coaching relationship and in what manner you want him to support you.
